Meet Your Practitioners
Stephanie Kleman
owner • movement coach • bodywork practitioner • dance artist • body nerd
Stephanie’s passion for movement has been a life-long adventure. She was in dance classes by the age of 3 (after demanding to be put in them) and began dancing competitively by the age of 6. She attended a performing arts high school for dance, where she took her first anatomy course & was first introduced to the world of dance science. By her junior year of high school, Stephanie started taking courses at Middlesex County College to further foster her interest in the human body. After high school, Stephanie continued her studies of human movement at SUNY Brockport, where she earned her B.S. in Exercise Science and her B.F.A. in Dance.
Over the years, Stephanie has accumulated an extensive collection of knowledge and experiences. She has worked in strength & conditioning spaces, assisted stretching facilities, dance studios, and beyond. She has led countless 1-on-1 sessions & group classes, and has experience working with ages ranging from teens to 90s! She has given lectures, presentations, and workshops on topics such as the use of movement for injury prevention, building demand-specific strength and conditioning programs for dancers, and the importance of athletic identities in dance.
Most importantly, Stephanie is deeply committed to learning as a lifestyle. She is always in the middle of some course or certification, or otherwise expanding her perspective. She is invigorated by the challenge posed when the complexity of the human body meets the complexity of a human’s lifestyle, and embraces every opportunity she can to explore those connections or add new tools to her coaching toolbox.
Stephanie started Movement Laboratory with the goal of helping people get out of pain, move more freely, prevent injuries, and overall increase their quality of life — all by deepening their understanding of, and connection to, their own bodies. She wanted the space to acknowledge the unique complexities that each client brings to the table, and explore which combinations of methods and techniques work best to get them to their goals, regardless of what those goals may be.
